For this particular assignment, I designed a coffee/dinner table for in my living room
The legs are made from cherrywood, treated with linseed oil twice to bring out the details. The design is a simple one, the main feature being the sloped profile on the insides of the legs. I chose this to give the table a bit of an art deco feel.
The table-top is made of a single slab of mahogany, sawed in half and folded open to create a somewhat mirrored effect in the grain. The edges have been cut to a 45 degree profile along the underside. It has been treated with several coatings of clear Osmo hardwax oil.
I had to become accustomed to a wide variety of new machines and tools throughout the course of the assignment which have been incredibly useful to me in the time since. My primary advice to anyone looking to work with wood in a similar capacity would be: make a plan and stick with it!
